This day was going to drag on for-fucking-ever.
"Cease and desist!" She could hear Eddie shouting down on the street as she knelt on the roof, one gloved hand reaching up to twist the scope on the massive rifle resting on the edge of the building. The blond was kneeling down behind the gun, braced and ready for the recoil.
Down on the street, a rather large... Well. A giant bug with the corpse of a woman in one claw was trotting down the street, hissing and spitting at the officers.
"Back away! We have your limiters right here! Replace them, and we can work a deal out with you! It doesn't have to end like this!" That was Cheddar. The scope sharpened on the creature, showing her a rather unsightly mess. Carefully, she focused her crosshairs on her mark. With her scope focused, she reached her hand up to touch the outside of the helmet she wore, designed to protect her from the explosion of sound her APR caused.
"Ready to go, boys." She spoke softly into the microphone close to her lips before moving her hand. The transmitter was touch activated on her end. Otherwise, her squad would go deaf every time she had to use her big motha-fucker.
And the beast down there deserved the big motha-fucker.
There were many names for them, but some called them 'spidren'; demons with a humanoid torso, and a spider's body. Most varieties were poisonous, they were insanely quick little shits, and all of them could spin web strong enough to trap their opponents. This particular one looked nasty, but she could tell that it was a lower-level one. The blades on the two arms extending from the humanoid torso didn't have the tell-tale drip of acid, and there was a lack of specific patterns or colors to show that it was heavily poisonous, or poisonous at all. It also lacked the armored shell that protected the spot where the torso and body met. It was there that she aimed, ready to launch a powerful blast straight into the creature's guts. Behind that slight seam, that shift of muscle from one body type to the other, lay the soft internal organs. The front of the creature's torso was of a thicker hide, and risked impalement from the scythe-like claws.
For the past ten years or so, demons had been filtering into the world like it was a right old party. Some of them caused trouble and had to be put down. Most, however, were willing to use specially-made power limitters blessed by the Temples to take on a human form and settle down. She had learned that not all demons were 'evil'. Her neighbor in her apartment was a demon, a lupine demon that had settled down with a sweet little lawyer and owned a bookstore.
But there were others that were more dangerous...
She shook off the memory of the youkai's voice. She still remembered him. She would never speak of him again. But she remembered him.
And every day, I train harder, and work harder. My boss doesn't appreciate it. But I still do it. Someone has to.
Through her headset, she could hear Eddie and Cheddar shout. The demon wasn't listening. It was going mad, and had knocked the limiter out of Cheddar's hand.
"Target is resisting authority. Take the shot, Police Girl! Retreat and take cover!"
And just like that, the adrenaline hit her. Her blue eyes turned red, and everything slowed down, and became so much clearer. Her shot was lined up, and she exhaled slowly before pulling the trigger.
The recoil was powerful, but she had long since adapted to it. The one time that Cheddar had tried to fire her rifle, he had dislocated his shoulder. Through the headset, she heard the explosion as the powerful shot hit, followed by an ear-piercing scream that faded into death's cry.
She didn't have to look to know she made the hit. But she did anyways. Her eye was pressed to the scope again, searching the streets below her. Cheddar appeared in her line of sight. Turning to her, he gave her the all-clear sign, followed by a thumb's up. Knowing he wouldn't see her own hand gesture, she instead lifted the barrel of her gun, bobbing it once in affirmation before she straightened up, cracking her back.
A sigh escaped her as she reached up to touch the helmet. "That's the fourth one this week, and the second one today." She commented, searching the ground below through her visor, watching the movement.
"From what I hear, it's tame compared to West City. Heard it's a real mess over there... Youkai taking their limiters off for no damn reason and going nuts. Outlying towns, it's even worse. I-" Eddie cut off, static coming across the headset for a moment before another voice spoke.
"Officer Li. Report to the station immediately." The voice of the Police Chief cracked over the headset.
"Sir! Yes sir!" Resisting the urge to groan, Seras looked down at her watch.
I'm on my thirteenth hour.. I'm ready to go home and sleep.

"Get in there and fight, Draculina. Don't be a coward."
