Despite having Saiyajin blood running through his veins, Gohan is in fact, only half Saiyajin. The other half of his heritage belongs to the people of Earth, more commonly known as humans. This gives him a unique, and completely different outlook on life, that would normally contridict his Saiyan heritage. Despite being so powerful, Gohan has always had a dislike for fighting, prefering to avoid the whole thing altogether. However, in situations where he has no way out, one should note that Gohan is often times more intrested in protected his family and friends during the battle, instead of actually trying to defeat his opponent. Of course, if he's by himself, and he's still forced into a situation where he must fight, he will try to do so swiftly.
However, Gohan on any normal day, would prefer studying over fighting, showing particular interest in the field of science. He finds that on Earth, true power isn't determined by strength, but by knowledge, a belief distilled into him early on in his childhood because of his mother, Chi-Chi. While Gohan no longer lives with his family anymore, and instead, lives with his wife, Videl and their daughter, Pan... he still visits his home frequently due to how quick he's capable of getting there via flight. Regardless of everything else though, Gohan is a kind hearted soul, a loving father and husband, and a dependable son.
History:
Early Life
Gohan was born in May of Age 757, about one year after his mother and father, Chi-Chi and Goku, got married. For a time, he went without a name, until one day Goku mentioned his grandfather, Gohan, and the young baby seemed to laugh and smile, liking the name. He was part of a loving family, and was also rather intelligent. However, unlike his father, Gohan had no real desire for fighting, and was even scared at a normal level that any child his age would be of things that frightened him. It was during his younger years, that Goku gave Gohan the four star dragonball, in honor of his grandfather.
Vegeta Saga
Despite his father's protests, Chi-Chi home-schooled Gohan until he was four, at which point Goku took him to Kame Island, so he could meet his friends, Master Roshi, Bulma, and Krillin. However, shortly after arriving there, so does Raditz, Goku's brother, and then proceeds to kidnap Gohan. At this point, Piccolo arrives to aid Goku in saving Gohan, and the two rush off after Raditz. During the battle, Gohan becomes enraged when he sees that his father is in danger, and breaks free from Raditz's space capsule, and then proceeds to charge at him, cracking Raditz's armor. This gave the other two enough time to defeat Raditz with Piccolo's Special Beam Cannon, though Goku died in the process, having to hold Raditz in place so he wouldn't miss.
Seeing the power Gohan possessed, Piccolo told Gohan's friends that he would be training him for a year in preparation of Nappa and Vegeta's arrival. However, he left it up to Goku's friends to pass the word along to Chi-Chi. For the next six months, Piccolo left Gohan to survive in the wild, though he watched over him closely without him realizing it. For the six months after that, Piccolo taught Gohan as much as he could about fighting. However, during this training, Gohan looked into the moon and turned into a great ape. It was because of this, that Piccolo was forced to destroy the moon to revert him back to his original form. When the time came to actually fight the two Saiyajins, Gohan was able to control his fear, but at times his age still caught up with him, preventing him from being very effective in the fight, except for in short intervals, like when he kicked Nappa through a boulder.
However, Nappa fired a lethal energy blast at Gohan, only to have Piccolo take the hit, Piccolo's affections for Gohan showing through. It was at this point that Gohan, for the first time, used his Masenko blast, damaging Nappa's arm. Later in the fight, after Goku was resurrected, Vegeta used concentrated energy and threw it to the sky. It was at this point that Vegeta turned into a Great Ape. Eventually, so did Gohan. This would lead to Vegeta's defeat, as his tail would be cut off, leaving him defenseless against Gohan's power. However, Goku lets him live, just so he could one day fight him again.
Namek Saga/ Captain Ginyu Saga/ Frieza Saga
Because of Piccolo's death, the Earth's dragonballs turned to stone, forcing Gohan, Bulma, and Krillin to travel to Namek, so that they could wish for their friends to come back to life. However, after arriving, they find out that Vegeta, and his former boss Frieza, are also looking for the dragonballs. While scouting the planet with Krillin, they find Frieza and his men tormenting Namekian villagers. Gohan loses it however, when he sees Dodoria attack a Namekian child, Dende. After rescuring him, the two flee from Dodoria who is now persuing them. However, they eventually lose him, and Dodoria is slain by Vegeta. As thanks, Dende leads the two to Grand Elder Guru, and as a gift, he unlocks Gohan and Krillin's hidden potential.
Later... Vegeta, Gohan, and Krillan form a temporary alliance, so they can defeat the Ginyu Force and retrieve the dragonballs. Aside from Guldo however, who was killed by Vegeta, they had little chance of stopping them, until Goku arrived. Goku took the rest on, and was winning, until Captain Ginyu changed bodies with him. With Goku in the injured Captain Ginyu's body, Gohan was forced to fight Captain Ginyu, who was now in Goku's body. Despite his reluctance, Gohan managed to fend him off long enough for Goku to arrive and switch places once again. After Ginyu wound up in a frog, the Z-fighters used the dragonballs, and wished for Piccolo's revival.Shortly after this though, Frieza ambushes them, and the three are forced to stall for Piccolo's arrival. When Frieza goes into his second form, Krillin is badly injured by one of Frieza's oversized horns, and Gohan attempts to rescue him as he plumets into a lake. With Frieza denything this however, Goku unleashes a barrage of punches and kicks, followed by another barrage, this being of Ki energy, seeming to slow Frieza down. This of course, allows Gohan to save Krillan.
After Piccolo's arrival, Gohan and the others watch as Piccolo fights on even terms with Frieza. However, this is only temporary, as Frieza transforms yet again. Gaining the upperhand against Piccolo, Gohan stalls for time with a massive blast of energy, which was eventually deflected back at him, and then destroyed by Piccolo. Frieza then transforms into his final form, and proceeds to kill Dende, as he was healing the fighters. From there, Frieza then attempts to kill Gohan with a Death Beam, but Gohan is surprisingly punched out of the way by Vegeta. Frieza then proceeds to ruthlessly beat Vegeta until Goku arrives, at which point, he uses another Death Beam, killing Vegeta.
Goku begins fighting Frieza on even terms, until Frieza powers up to 50%. At this point, Gohan and Krillan give Piccolo their energy, allowing for him to stall for time for Goku, who at this point, is attempting to charge up a spirit bomb. Successfully completing it, Goku throws it at Frieza, severely damaging him. Believing him to be dead, the heroes relax, only to realize shortly after, that he was indeed alive. Frieza then fires off another Death Beam, seriously injuring Piccolo, much to Gohan's horror, and then forces Krillan to telekineticly explode, causing Goku to go into a fit of rage, and turn into a Super Saiyajin. He then yells at Gohan, telling him to take Piccolo and leave the planet while he dealt with Frieza. Reluctantly, Gohan obeys his father's wishes and flees, managing to find Bulma and rescue her in the process.
Later on during the fight, Gohan senses his father's ki fade away. Thinking his father is dead, Gohan leaves Bulma and the unconcious Piccolo, saying "Frieza's going to hunt me down wherever I go. The last thing I want to do is lead him back to Earth.", to Bulma, before leaving to stall for time, hoping to have Frieza caught in the blast of the planet's explosion. Despite his best efforts however, he is unable to stall him, as Frieza continuously dodges and taunts him. However, Gohan senses that his father is still indeed alive, and then powers up, landing a barrage of punches and kicks, following through with a Super Masenko. However, Frieza seems unaffected by this, and deems him a true Saiyajin, and says for that, he must die. Before he can kill Gohan though, Goku rises from the ocean and tells Gohan to leave the planet. Gohan flees willingly this time, but not before encouraging his father to win. As they're flying in the spaceship away from the planet, they're teleported back to Earth via Shenron. Gohan is left to mourn the loss of his father after his victory over Frieza, but failure to escape from the planet's explosion. Months later, after collecting Earth's Dragonballs, they summon Porunga to revive Goku, only to find that he can't grant this wish, because Goku isn't dead. Everyone celebrated this fact, and during the time of piece, Gohan went back to his studies, while Piccolo watched over him and his mother.
Trunks Saga/ Android Saga/ Imperfect Cell Saga
A year after Goku defeated Frieza, Gohan and Chi-Chi continue to wait for Goku's return. However, the Z-fighters suddenly sense Frieza's presence, and a presence even more powerful heading toward Earth. Gohan and the Z-fighters rush toward where the spaceship will be landing, but without Goku, they're unsure of how well they'll fair against such a threat. However, when Frieza and King Cold land, they are confronted by a mysterious youth, who turns into a Super Saiyan, and easily destroys Frieza, King Cold, and their henchmen. After the fight, he instructs the Z-fighters to follow him, and he'll lead them to where Goku will be arriving on Earth. After two hours of waiting, Goku arrives, and he and the youth have a private conversation. He reveals himself to be Trunks, the son of Bulma and Vegeta, from the future. During this conversation, he also tells Goku of the deadly android attacks in the next three years, and also gives Goku the antidote for a deadly heart condition that he will soon contract. With the conversation over, Trunks leaves, but promises to return in three years time, when the androids also appear. For the next three years, Gohan trains with Goku and Piccolo, hoping to prevent the threat from happening altogether.
Three years later, the Z-fighters locate the androids on an island about nine miles south of South City. Fearing the rampant destruction, they lead the androids to a desolate location to do battle. Everything seems fine as Goku turns Super Saiyajin, until Goku contracts the heart disease Trunks warned him of three years prior. This allows Android 19 to steal some of Goku's energy. However, he is quickly saved by Vegeta, who transforms into a Super Saiyajin himself, and utterly destroys 19. Android 20, also known as Dr Gero, seeing this, flees in terror with the Z-fighters in pursuit. During the search, Dr Gero ambushes Piccolo and begins draining his energy, wanting to use it against Vegeta. However, Piccolo telepathicly contacts Gohan, who rushes to his mentor's aid, saving his life. From there, Piccolo fights Dr. Gero and dominates the fight. However, when Future Trunks arrives, he informs them that these two androids, aren't the androids from his future timeline.
Unfortunately, Android 20 manages to escape. While the Z-fighters search for him, Gohan takes Bulma, Baby Trunks, and Yajirobe back to Bulma's home at Capsule Corporation. Dr Gero manages to make it back to his lab and activates Android 17 and Android 18, two of his more powerful androids. However, they rebel and kill Dr Gero. Upon doing so, they awaken Android 16, whose sole purpose is to kill Goku. The Z-fighters fight these androids, but lose. At this point, the androids fly away, now searching for Goku. While the Z-fighters are on a plane with a weakened Goku, Gohan and Future Trunks leave to meet with Bulma to investigate an old time machine that was used to travel to the past. Inside, they find an egg shell split in half, but can't find any clues to what it might be. Then, in the distance, Gohan finds something unusual; the skin of a huge bug (which will later be known as the Android Cell). They then leave, Bulma taking the skin back with them to do more investigating.
After Goku is cured of his heart disease, he takes Gohan, Future Trunks, and Vegeta up to Kami's lookout, where Mr. Popo shows them the hyperbolic time chamber, so they can prepare for the new threat of Cell. First Vegeta and Future Trunks enter the room, while Gohan and Goku wait. At the same time, they sense that Piccolo has begun fighting the androids. Gohan tries to go down to Earth to help, but Goku stops him, saying that he isn't strong enough yet, and would only get in Piccolo's way. Later, after Cell arrives during the match between Piccolo and Android 17, Gohan and Goku sense Piccolo's energy disappear. Thinking his mentor is dead, an enraged Gohan tries to go down, only to be held and calmed down by Goku. Still upset, Gohan tries to escape the lookout, only to have Goku hit Gohan back down to the lookout. Mr Popo speaks to Gohan, and after realizing that his father is probably just as upset, the two apologize for their previous actions towards one another.
Perfect Cell Saga/ Cell Games Saga
After Cell aborbs Android 17, he sets his sights on Android 18, only to be stopped temporarily by Tien. However, Tien doesn't put up much of a fight, and Gohan and Goku sense another of their comrade's energy steadily decreasing. Before Cell can kill Tien however, Goku uses his instant transmission to appear on the battlefield. Goku then grabs Tien and Piccolo, and teleports back to Kami's Lookout, where they heal the two with a Senzu Bean. At this point, Piccolo goes on to explain to the two, that despite their best efforts, the two of them were useless against Cell's new form. At this point, Mr Popo appears and leads the group to the chamber, where Trunks and Vegeta emerge, in their Full Power Super Saiyan forms. Bulma gives the two armor, and they rush off towards Earth to fight Cell. While they do this, Goku and Gohan enter the Chamber, and begin their training. During their training, Gohan realizes that the only way for him to achieve the level of super Saiyajin, was if Goku fought him at full power. Reluctant at first, Goku eventually agrees and fires a Kamehameha at him while in his Super Saiyajin form.
Gohan manages to block the attack, and while he does so, thinks back on how he was never able to help his friends when they were in danger, and how he was always bailed out of it by those very friends. Enraged that he wasn't able to do anything, Gohan turns into a Super Saiyajin for the first time, and fires the blast back at his father. Goku dodges it, and suggests the two take a break, at which point, Goku offers to give his son a haircut. Later, Gohan continues to train while in his Super Saiyajin form, while Goku sits and watches him. When Gohan gets tired, he reverts back to his normal form, and Goku begins explaining the Ascended Saiyajin, and Ultra Super Saiyajin forms to him. Seeing these forms, Gohan is sure that Goku could defeat Cell, but Goku denies it, and explains that in the Ultra Super Saiyajin form, the muscle mass bulks up so much, that speed is greatly loss, something needed greatly to fight Cell. Goku then gets an idea, and suggests to Gohan that they train in their Super Saiyajin forms all day, until it becomes second nature to them. This results in the Full-Power Super Saiyajin form, which rendered the Ascended and Ultra Super Saiyajin forms obsolete.
With the training finally complete, Gohan and Goku exit the hyperbolic time chamber as Full Power Super Saiyajins. While eating, Future Trunks informs them that Cell has announced to the world that he will be holding a tournament for Earth's strongest warriors, known as the Cell Games. Instead of Goku's attire for the occasion, Gohan asks Piccolo if he could have a gi similar to his, as Piccolo was his first mentor, showing Gohan's respect for him. After this, Goku uses instant transmission to teleport to Cell to have a discussion. After coming back, Goku informs the group that he's no match against Cell. When Piccolo suggests entering the chamber to train more, Goku declines and says that him and Gohan will train outside the chamber, surprising everyone. Returning to Kame Island to pick up Chi-Chi, Gohan asks his father if they stand a chance resting and training outside. Goku replies to this, by laughing and saying not to worry about it, because they have nine days to relax. When they finally go inside to meet with everyone, Oolong and Puar claim that Gohan "buffed up", but his mother freaks out and says he turned into a "hair-dying punk".
Ten days later, and Gohan and the other Z-fighters arrive at the designated spot for the Cell Games. Goku was up first, and after going blow for blow against Cell, and using a Warp Kamehameha, Goku (much to the surprise of everyone) forfeits the match. At this point, Goku chooses Gohan to fight Perfect Cell in his place. After enter the arena, Gohan says that his father's match wasn't that great, leading to the conclusion that Gohan was much stronger than his father at this point time, whom was fighting at full power during the match with Cell. After powering up to the point that he even surpassed Goku's power level, Gohan prepared to fight Cell, albeit reluctantly. As the fight begins, because of his lack of spirit, Cell gains the upper hand quickly. However, Gohan tells Cell, that if he becomes enraged, his full potential would be unleashed. Intrigued by this, Cell begins smacking him around, wanting to see the boy's full power. Eventually, Gohan begins to get annoyed, and kicks Cell in the face, causing a bloody lip, something that surprised, and to some extent, over-joyed Cell (presumably due to his thrill of the fight).
When things begin to become dangerous, Android 16 sneaks up behind Cell and attempts to self destruct, only to discover that Bulma removed the bomb inside his body. This allowed Cell to escape, and blast 16 to bits, though his head was still intact, as it landed near Hercule, who was cowering behind a boulder at this point, watching the Cell Games. In an attempt to further enrage Gohan, Cell releases seven Cell Jrs., and sends them after the Z-fighters. The miniature Cells begin to pulverize the Z-fighters, the only ones able to hold their own being the Saiyajins. And even then, due to the drain caused by their Super Saiyajin forms, they too eventually fell. While this is happening, Android 16's head convinces Hercule to throw him to where Gohan and Cell are, so he can speak with Gohan. Once in Gohan's sight, 16 tells him that it's okay to remove the restraints on his emotions if it was to protect his loved ones, and that if he did so, he would have enough power to defeat Cell, even in his Perfect form. After he finishes speaking, Cell steps on, and crushes Android 16's head, ending his life. Moved by 16's words, and enraged at his death, Gohan transforms once again, achieving the rank of Super Saiyajin 2.
The first thing Gohan does in his new form, is tell Cell that he will never forgive him for what he did. After this, Gohan steals the Senzu Beans that were stolen from Krillin. After this, Gohan teleports to one of the Cell Jrs and kills him effortlessly. He then teleports to Krillin, and saves him from two Cell Jrs. and manages to kill one of them, also effortlessly. Seeing what Goku meant by the hidden power Gohan had, Cell orders the Jrs to attack Gohan at the same time. However, Gohan was too powerful for them, and dispatched them all effortlessly. Gohan then gives the Senzu Beans to Future Trunks, so the Z-fighters can heal, and then challenges Cell. As the Z-fighters heal themselves, Gohan and Cell's match begins, Gohan quickly gaining the upper hand. Cell unleashes his maximum power, and punches Gohan square in the face, but Gohan merely grins and returns Cell's punches back at him, one to the face, and the other the stomach. He then informs Cell, that he should have never pushed him, and now that he had, he would destroy him.
At this point, Cell flies into the air, and attempts to destroy the Earth with a Kamehameha. However, Gohan counters it with one of his own, his being far more powerful, and even going so far as to overpowering Cell's, destroying his legs, an arm, and the upper portion of his head. When Goku tells him to finish it off, Gohan refuses, wanting Cell to suffer for what he did. As Goku predicted, Cell regenerated and transformed into his Power Weighted Form, Cell's own version of the Ultra Super Saiyajin state. However, this form has the same drawbacks as the Ultra Super Saiyajin form, and at this point, Cell couldn't even hit Gohan. After dodging all of Cell's punches, Gohan delivered two powerful kicks, one to the face, and the other stomach. The latter of the two kicks forced Cell to regurgitate Android 18, forcing him to revert to his Semi-perfect form. In a moment of desperation, Cell begins to perform a Self-destruct technique. Cell informs Gohan that if he attacks him, the explosion will happen automatically, destroying Earth. Gohan then realizes his mistake, and blames himself for not being able to save Earth. At the last moment however, Goku teleports in between the two, gives Gohan a heartfelt goodbye, and teleports him and Cell to King Kai's planet, unable to think of anywhere else to take him.
Unknown to the Z-fighters, Cell survived the explosion, regenerating from a lone cell from his core. Doing this effectively increased his power from the genes he had absorbed from Gohan and Goku, and he even learned the Instant Transmission technique, which he used to return to finish Gohan and the other fighters off. As his first act, Super Perfect Cell kills Future Trunks. In a fit of rage, Vegeta goes Super Saiyajin, and fires a massive volley of energy blasts at Cell. Cell however, was unaffected by the attack, and smacked Vegeta away, planning to kill him with the subsequently fired blast. Gohan however, rushes to Vegeta, taking the hit, but saving his life. His left arm however, was broken, and rendered useless from this.
Wanting to end it, Cell prepares a massive Kamehameha to destroy Gohan, who had already lost all hope after losing the use of his arm and seeing Cell's new power. However, at that moment, using King Kai's help, Goku telepathicly speaks to Gohan, encouraging him and telling him that if its anyone's fault, it's Cell's. Giving Gohan renewed hope, he begins charging a one handed Kamehameha. With Goku's spirit's assisstance, Gohan channels enough energy to fire at the same time as Cell, the subsequent energy collision knocking back the rest of the Z-fighters. At first, Cell seems to have the upper hand, but because of the assisstance from his father, the other Z-fighters, and ultimately, Vegeta, Gohan is capable of unleashing all his energy, destroying every cell in Cell's body, ensuring that he won't regenerate and return.
Later, after the Z-fighters collected the dragonballs to revive everyone, Goku asks the group to not revive him. Though he doesn't know why, he seems to attract evil villains to him, constantly jeopardizing the planet. He then goes to say that, should the Earth ever need it, Gohan had surpassed him in strength, and that he could defend the world if need be. Gohan then says goodbye to Goku, and then to everyone else, and returns home, returning peace to the planet once more.
Great Saiyaman Saga/ World Tournament Saga/ Babidi Saga
Seven years after the Cell Saga, Gohan lives at home with his mother Chi-Chiand his seven year old brother, Goten. His training was put aside so that he could continue his studies, and his strength has been surpassed by Vegeta and Goku. By order of his mother, Gohan begins attending high school to finish out his education. On his first day, he turns Super Saiyajin to stop a robbery, and because of two previous times, rumors of the man dubbed "The Gold Fighter" are already circulating the school. In class, he meets Videl, another crime fighter and the most popular girl in school. Gohan then finds out she's the daughter of Hercule, who got rich by taking Gohan's credit for defeating Cell. For one reason or another, Videl is suspicious of Gohan being the Gold Fighter. She confronts him several times, and each time, Gohan nervously denied the accusations. At this point, Gohan opts for a disguise, and goes to Bulma for the creation of it. Using this disguise, Gohan becomes "The Great Saiyaman", to protect his family from the media.
However, one day... when trying to get Videl to let him return a stolen pterodactyl baby to its nest, Gohan accidently reveals his secret. Videl then blackmails him into joining the revived World Martial Arts Tournament. Because of his lack of experience with kids his age, especially girls, the confident Videl forces Gohan to promise that he'll teach her how to fly. When Gohan tells Bulma about the tournament, Goku overhears this from the other world, and tells Gohan that he'll use his one day pass to enter the tournament as well. Hearing this, Vegeta also decides to join. With everyone joining, and figuring it to be a chance to meet with his father again, Gohan goes around and tells all his friends and family about, who also decide to join the tournament. At this point, Gohan decides to train with Goten, only to surprisingly find out that Goten has already acheived the rank of Super Saiyajin, surpassing Gohan as the youngest to ever acheive such a feat.
Eventually, Videl shows up at Gohan's house to make good on his promise to teach her. Surprisingly, he finds out that she has no knowledge of Ki, due to her father believing it to be nothing but a trick, despite everything he saw during the Cell Games. Because of this, Gohan decides to train her from scratch, but to his surprise, she learns rather quickly. During his time training with Videl and Goten, Videl begins to learn more about Gohan, and begins to get closer to him. At one point, Goten let it slip that Goku was coming back to life to compete, but Videl merely thought Goku was a deadbeat dad that left them.
On the day of the tournament, Goku finally returns, and for the first time ever, meets his second son, Goten. The Z-fighters advance through their earlier matches rather easily. Later on however, when Videl fights Spopovich, she's nearly beaten to death by the mountain of muscle that he is. Enraged by what he saw, Gohan was forced to watch as his very first girlfriend suffered. No longer able to stand watching, Gohan turns Super Saiyajin and goes to rescue Videl, only to be stopped by Yamu. Yamu then tells Spapovich to finish the match, as they have more pressing issues. Then, the muscle man kicks Videl out of the arena, and leaves with Yamu, but not before Gohan warns him, that next time they fight, that he will win. However, with more urgent matters, Gohan proceeded to get Videl, and rush her to the hospital.
After giving Videl a Senzu Bean to heal, Gohan returned to the tournament and found himself set to fight Kibito. However, Kibito tricked Gohan into transforming into his Super Saiyajin form, shocking the audience into thinking he was the Gold Fighter. However, Gohan informs Kibito that there's a stage even higher, and transforms into his Super Saiyajin 2 form. At this point, Spopovich and Yamu jump into the ring, and the Supreme Kai paralyzes Gohan before he can attack them. They then steal Gohan's energy, forcing him to revert to normal, and flee to Babidi's ship, so they can the energy back to Babidi. At this point, Kibito apologizes, and informs Gohan that he was looking for Babidi's ship so he could destroy it, and used Gohan as bait. He then proceeds to heal Gohan, while the Z-fighters follow in pursuit.
After flying for quite some time, the previously injured Videl stops and decides to head back to the tournament, due to the opponent being too strong for her to handle. Before leaving though, Gohan and her have a conversation. She asks him if he's really the Gold Fighter. Not wanting to lie to her, Gohan admits it. At that point, Videl makes the conclusion that Gohan was the golden haired boy that had defeated Cell, not her father Hercule. After that, they say goodbye to each other, and Videl promises Gohan that she'll date him when he comes back. Gohan and Kibito eventually catch up to the rest of the Z-fighters, and watch as Babidi kills Yamu and Spopovich after giving him the energy they had collected.
However, Babidi and Debura realize the fighters are nearby, and Babidi decides to lure the stronger of the fighters into his ship, by killing the weaker of them. Dabura rushes over and kills Kibito with a Ki blast at point blank range, and after a brief fight with Krillin and Piccolo, spits on them, turning them to stone. After this, Gohan, Goku, and Vegeta chase after Debura, who at this point, leads them into Babidi's spaceship. When they enter, Babidi informs them that they must defeat three opponents to leave. The first opponent, Pui Pui, is easily defeated by Vegeta with a Ki blast straight to the chest. The second opponent, Yakon, is Goku's opponent. Yakon had the ability to absorb energy, but Goku forced him to absorb too much energy, causing him to blow up.
With these fighters defeated, all that remained was Babidi's strongest fighter, Debura. And, since Gohan was the only not have fought yet, it was his turn to fight. While Gohan had a difficult time keeping up with Debura, he managed to fight an even match after ascending to his Super Saiyajin 2 form. However, Vegeta and Goku both say that Gohan had much more power seven years ago during the Cell Games. At this point Vegeta becomes frustrated with Gohan's lack of motivation, and feels disgraced. Debura stops the match after sensing Vegeta's inner evil, and informs Babidi of his findings. Shortly after this, Babidi using his mind control magic on Vegeta, the same "M" symbol appearing on his head as it did with the other two from the tournament, thus transforming him into Majin Vegeta.
Babidi then transports everyone back to the World Tournament Arena, where Vegeta starts killing random members of the audience in an attempt to provoke Goku to fight him. Goku agrees, and Babidi once again transports them, this time to a desert area. Before Goku leaves though, he gives Gohan a Senzu Bean, and tries to get him to remember all the reasons he has to fight, and to use them as his weapon. From there, Gohan and Supreme Kai go further into the ship, attempting to stop Babidi.
Majin Buu Saga/ Fusion Saga/ Kid Buu Saga
After defeating numerous, rather weak henchmen, Gohan and Supreme Kai make it to Babidi's lair. Babidi and Debura are about to release Majin Buu, when Supreme Kai tells Gohan to retreat, so they can think of another plan to defeat him. Remembering his father's words however, Gohan refuses, and begins to fire a continuous volley of Flashing Kamehameha at the coccoon. However, this does nothing, and Majin Buu is freed. Despite his best efforts to protect Supreme Kai from Majin Buu, Gohan is left nearly killed after Majin Buu fires a devastating attack that blasts him up into the sky. The weakened Supreme Kai uses his psychic powers to destroy the attack and Gohan ends up falling down into a nearby forest, unconscious and severely beaten.
Luckily, Supreme Kai is healed by Kibito, who had been revived by the dragonballs. The two begin looking for Gohan, eventually finding him, and returning to the Supreme Kai planet so he can be healed properly. After his revival, Gohan is told that he was brought to this planet to remove the legendary Z-sword. At first he struggles, but once he becomes a Super Saiyajin, he easily removes the sword from the stone pedestal. During his training with the Z-sword, Gohan reunites with his father. Seeing Gohan's progress with the sword, Goku throws a boulder at him, testing his skill. Gohan easily slashes through the boulder. However, when Supreme Kai summons Katchin, the densest metal in the universe, and Goku throws it, the Z-sword snaps in half, releasing Old Kai. However, Old Kai tells Gohan that he'll unlock his latent potential through the use of a ritual.
As Goku, Kibito, and Supreme Kai watch what's happening back on Earth, Gohan grows increasingly impatient with Old Kai's childish antics. Finally at his limit, Gohan powers up, releasing so much energy, that the entire planet becomes illuminated. However, after the ritual is finally completed, Gohan realizes he had indeed become stronger, and apologizes to Old Kai. Resuming, and completing the ritual, Gohan thanks everyone, and returns to Earth with Goku through Kibito's teleportation abilities. Before he returns, Gohan requests a gi similar to his father's, and Kibito happily agrees. With his powers fully released, Gohan then goes to confront Earth's most recent threat, Super Buu. After arriving to the battle, Gohan begins to easily defeat Super Buu. In a moment of desperation, Buu attempts to self-destruct. However, Gohan sees through this, and grabs everyone and flies out of the blast radius. At this point, they also find Hercule and his pet dog, who were exhausted while in the desert. Saving him as well, they go to find Dende, who Gohan had sensed when he first began battling Super Buu. After finding him, Dende explains what happened.
After the hour it took for Super Buu to reform is up, Super Buu arrives and challenges Goten and Trunks to a rematch. The boys agree, and fuse to become Gotenks, in his Super Saiyajin 3 form. However, this is what Super Buu wanted, and he absorbed Gotenks, and Piccolo, giving him a huge mental, and physical, boost in power. However, despite this, Gohan still managed to hold his own against this version of Buu. That is, until Super Buu used Piccolo's knowledge to play mind tricks on Gohan, at which point, Super Buu begins to gain the upper hand against Gohan, whose injuries are healed by Dende. Surprisingly enough, Tien appears to help Gohan, but is easily defeated by Super Buu. However, before Super Buu can launch his attack that would have destroyed the world, Goku appears and cuts the villian in half. Goku then throws a Potarra Earring to Gohan, so the two can fuse, but misses. Goku is forced to transform into his Super Saiyajin 3 form to stall for time, while Gohan looks for the earring. Gohan manages to find it, but at this point, the fusion time ran out for Goten and Trunks, and Super Buu's power was decreased dramatically. Goku says that fusion isn't needed anymore. However, Super Buu catches Gohan off guard, and manages to absorb him.
Eventually, Goku and Vegeta enter Super Buu's body (after they had fused into Vegito), and escape with Gohan, Piccolo, Trunks, and Goten. The removal of the Z-fighters however, causes Super Buu to go through another transformation, this one being his original form... Kid Buu. Gohan is killed when Kid Buu destroys the Earth, but is shortly thereafter revived by Porunga, along with the rest of the earth and it's people. When Vegeta arrives and tells them that Goku needs their energy to defeat Buu, Gohan willingly gives a portion of his up, though the citizens refused to at first. Eventually, Hercule convinces them, and Goku manages to defeat Kid Buu with a Super Spirit Bomb. Ten years later, Gohan has finally become a scholar; a scientist at that. Along with this, he's also married Videl, and has a daughter named Pan.
