R a c i a l ... B a c k g r o u n d Original Planet: Planet Spice For several centuries, the Ikikesan race resided on a small world called Spice, a land of endless desert and barren landscape. Against all odds, a race of terran humanoids resided on this world, with a rather astonishing tie to their planet. Drawing energy and essence from the very sand and stone beneath their feet, these people developed a rather astonishing immunity to the high heats, and established a rather high level of durability and stamina. Originally residing in caves to escape the heat and find water, Ikikesans soon ventured out into the broad deserts and encountered the Komugiko, a race of lizard-like beings that had evolved to survive the high heat. For many decades, even a century or two, the Ikikesans and Komugiko clashed in warfare, until a treaty was finally struck. For the first time in their history, Ikikesans and Komugiko lived side-by-side in peace. In this newfound alliance, the two races began to trade information. The Komugiko, having travelled from another world, posessed a higher level of technology, and willingly exchanged this information in exchange for tutelage in the Ikikesan's druidic ways. This continued til recent decades, with Ikikesans and Komugiko living together in massive desert metropolises. Approximately thirty years ago, however, this desert paradise was destroyed. Three saiyajins, Nappa, Raditz, and Prince Vegeta arrived on the planet to begin 'purging' it. The Ikikesans and the Komugikos fought long and hard, but eventually found themselves to be no match for the three unstoppable saiyajin. Gathering what was left of their people, the Ikikesans boarded one ship, and the Komugiko another, and the meager remnants of both races fled the destruction of their home. Severely weakened by the distance between their home and source of power, and from the injuries obtained, several Ikikesans did not make the passage. The force that landed on Earth in Age 754 was meager at best, a fraction of a once populous race. Thanking the gaian energies, they struggled to rebuild their race in the massive Diablo Desert, building a colony in the heart of the desert. |
C u l t u r e A rather reclusive society, the Ikikesan people prefer to be left alone in peace. Should a traveler stumble upon their desert colony, they will welcome them for a short stay, but do not allow outsiders to join their communities. This is not due to any actual hatred of these strangers, but due to a desire to protect and nurture their race, to bring their numbers back up. Because of their beliefs in restoring the Ikikesan numbers, marriages are often arranged, in order to prevent bloodlines from needlessly intermingling and to control breeding to prevent any interbreeding and deformities. It is rare that any Ikikesan has a 'love' marriage. To prevent any 'accidents', Ikikesans are kept oblivious of intercourse until they are mated, or at least engaged to their future mate. An Ikikesan is typically betrothed between the ages of fifteen and nineteen. There are no exceptions, as even the members of the religious orders have wives and husbands and children. Ikikesans also perform one peculiarity that often ensures a lasting marriage and a deep bond between husband and wife. It is unknown how exactly the Ikikesan accomplish this feat, other then that it is an elaborate ceremony involving the gaian energies coursing through the planet. Once the ceremony is complete, the husband and wife are bonded together, mentally and spiritually. Ikikesan beliefs are fairly simple: They honor the earth above all else. Since arriving on Earth, the Ikikesans have adopted several Buddhist ideals from outsiders who have passed through their communities. It could be jokingly said that Ikikesans are a bunch of alien hippies and... Well, it's sadly true. A good majority of Ikikesans adopt rather pacifist ideals, and prefer not to fight, and instead lean towards meditation and the nurturing of the gaian energies. That does not mean, however, that an Ikikesan is helpless. Similar to the saiyajin drive to fight, Ikikesans possess an innate drive to protect, stemming from a natural-born instinct to protect their home and the source of their powers. For some Ikikesans, this instinct applies to those around them, leading them to protect the people as well as the earth. Like any society, there are different levels of occupation. The top of the Ikikesan society is the royal family, followed closely by the imperial guards. A Council of Elders presides as well, working with the monarch to decide marriages and community laws. The rest of society is defined loosely, with a high level of respect for monks, and deference to the guardsmen. Those who suffer more.. violent tendencies and are less inclined to a pacifist life have a few options available to them. The majority of those who decide to learn to fight become monks, learning to fight as a way to exercise out those violent tendencies and to control themselves, using it as a form of physical meditation. Monks also act as spiritual leaders around the community, speaking to those around them, and often being a well of comfort for youngsters nervous about an arranged marriage. Surprisingly enough, it is often monks who, despite their 'violent' tendencies, posess the greatest of healing gifts, leaving them to also act as midwives and medics. Monks often range from the simple healers and a strange sort of priest, to warriors who train for hours on end in the desert and often aid the guardsmen in defending the community. The guardsmen themselves are often the main fighting force of the community. Comprised of the individuals with the highest desire to fight, they are considered the strongest in the village, and, similar to some of the monks, train for hours on end in the desert and in the barren landscapes to increase their power and endurance. They train in a variety of weapons as well as hand-to-hand combat. While monks are fairly even in gender, the defenders and guards tend to be more male then female. |
A b i l i t i e s Class Types: Druids, Priests, Warriors Energy Type: Gaian energy Ki: Capable Flight: Unlearned Strengths: Speed, endurance, agility, reaction time Weaknesses: Attachment to earth, pacifist ways, affected by damage to the earth Specializing in druidic abilities, the Ikikesan race harnesses close ties to the very earth beneath them. Drawing on what they call 'gaian energies', these extraterrestrial humanoids channel energy from the stone, soil, and earth around them to supplement their own ki. Ikikesans are tied deeply to the earth around them, causing even the weakest Ikikesan to be affected by damage to the earth. Unlike other ki-capable races, Ikikesans do not fly, and instead channel their ki into running. Excepting a few, Ikikesans prefer running over all other modes of transportation. While an Ikikesan has never been clocked, they are among the swiftest in the universe, able to cross vast distances with ease. For normal beings, such high speeds would be dangerous, as it is nearly impossible to react to obstacles. To make up for this, an Ikikesan processes images faster then a normal human, giving them greater reaction times. A typical human processes about thirty images per second. An Ikikesan, however, typically processes fifty to seventy images per second. The faster the Ikikesan, the faster they generally process images. Another trait of an Ikikesan that makes them formidable opponents (should they choose to fight) is a high level of endurability. When an Ikikesan is on solid earth and is able to channel energy, it takes a greater amount of strength to take them down. Contact with the earth grants them a high resillience, and higher stamina. However, should the earth around them become damaged, they will begin to weaken. One of the fastest Ikikesans to this day remains Sansho, who was able to cross the desert in astonishingly short amounts of time as a child. Due to her high speeds, Sansho also has the highest reaction time in the colony, able to process up to one hundred frames per second. |
