PERSONALITY Hakkai, unlike his small group of friends, is mild, polite and level-headed. He really has the patience of a saint when it comes to dealing with people, no matter their gender, race or opinions. Hakkai looks out for his friends, making sure that they are well taken care of on a daily basis. Within the group he accepts the more feminine side of things such as; cooking, cleaning up after everyone, making sure their supplies are in order, and solving (or at least calming down) the arguments and yelling matches that happen quite frequently. More often than not, everything is taken in stride with a smile and a light comment in order to hide his never-ending sadness and guilt that eats away at him. Although he appears to be an optomist by nature, this is false. In reality, he is a pessimest with more than a hint of cynicalism though not many realize this due to his constant smiling. No matter the situation he always smiles even when fighting, insulting someone, or when he is angry (although it is hard to tell he is due to the smile). When Hakkai gives an insult, it is veiled by a smile and his choice of words so that people have to double take to actually understand. Contrary to popular belief, this does happen quite often to both strangers and friends. The insults, although veiled, are just a tiny fraction of when his content mask slips and 'Gonou' peaks out. This side of Hakkai is much darker, openly hostile, and has a short temper. He is much more emotional when he allows the mask of 'Hakkai' to slip away, which actually invokes more fear than anything else about him. He is very protective of his friends, so much so that he places himself in the way of danger rather than allowing the others to get harmed. Hakkai's reasoning behind this, is that he doesn't want to lose them like he lost (and failed) Kanan. He gets along perfectly fine with his friends, serving as a different role for each of them. Hakkai serves as Sanzo's non-idiot of the group, managing to calm the other man down and reason with him when no one else can. He and Gojyo share a close, brother-like, bond that is far deeper than any other relationship with the others mainly due to the fact that they've known each other longer. Hakkai values Goku's optomism, as he fails to summon up any himself, and even manages to sometimes see things in a bit of more positive light. He serves as Goku's guardian when Sanzo is gone, returning the service of reassurance. |
